A picture of me in Zagreb, Croatia as the Command
Sergeant Major of the Joint Task Force, Operation Provide Promise, the
Humanitarian Aid Mission to the Former Republic of Yugoslavia. The JTF,
headquartered in Naples, Italy, under the direction of General James Jones
and Admiral Jeremy Boorda, was responsible for airlift and airdrop of humanitarian
daily rations to the hungry of Yugoslavia. Missions also included
a MASH hospital as part of the UN mission in Zagreb, Croatia, and border
observations in Macedonia to insure that Serbia didn't involve Macedonia
in the conflict. After the deployment, BGen Arnold Punaro, staff director
of the Senate Armed Services Committee, working for Senator Nunn, came
to San Antonio, TX to pin on the Defense Meritorious Service medal on me
for the job I did as Command Sergeant Major for the JTF. This picture
was taken in Oct 1994.
